東京日日新聞は、「毎日新聞」の旧社名であり、明治維新後に発行された近代新聞である。目を引く錦絵と、主にゴシップを詳細に伝えたこのような新聞版画は、刺激を求める庶民から人気を得てよく売れたという。

Tokyo Nichinichi Newspaper is the former name of The Mainichi Newspapers Co., Ltd. It was a modern newspaper published after the Meiji Restoration. These newspaper prints, with their eye-catching pictures and detailed gossip reporting, were popular among commons seeking stimulation and sold well.
According to the written records, Fusa in Yokose village, Chichibu, a tanuki (perhaps in the form of a fox?) disguised as a beautiful young man appeared every night.
Astonished, she decided to pray and have it exorcised at the village's temple. After a rainy day passed, an old tanuki was found dead behind her house. Some doubted the story, suspecting that someone might have killed the tanuki to conceal something.
Yoshiiku was a pupil of Kuniyoshi and he studied with Yoshitoshi. After Kuniyoshi's death, he became one of the leading ukiyo-e artists from the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period by depicting the manners and customs of brothels.
