出版当時、世間を騒がせていた相馬事件を描いた作品。
相馬事件とは旧中村藩主相馬誠胤の精神疾患による自宅監禁や入院を、異母弟ら親族による財産目当ての陰謀であると錦織剛清ら旧藩士の一部が主張した事件。
描かれているのは相馬誠胤を当時巣鴨にあった東京府癲狂院から連れ出す場面である。
小国政は国政四代（豊斎・香朝楼）の長男であり門人。小国政、国政五代、柳蛙など、時期や作品のジャンルによってその名を変えている。

This work depicts the Soma Incident, which was causing a stir at the time of publication.
The Soma Incident was a case in which some former feudal lords, including Takekiyo Nishigori, claimed that the confinement and hospitalization of former Nakamura feudal lord Tomotane Soma due to mental illness was a plot by his half-brother and other relatives to gain his fortune.
The scene depicted is the removal of Tomotane Soma from the Tokyo Epileptic Asylum in Sugamo at the time.
Kokunimasa was the eldest son and pupil of Kunimasa Ⅳ (Hosai). He changed his name depending on the period and genre of his works, such as Kokunimasa (小国政), KunimasaⅤ (国政五代), Ryua (柳蛙).
