こちらは、三宅青軒の小説「寂光院」の口絵である。平清盛の娘であり、安徳天皇の母である平徳子が華麗な女房装束で描かれている。奥には晩年の姿、壇ノ浦の戦いで生き残り、尼となって京都の寂光院で余生を過ごす様子が描かれている。
口絵は本の附録として制作されたものであるが、そのクオリティは非常に高く、繊細な線の表現は浮世絵に劣らない。
年方は芳年の門人で、画風は穏やかで気品のある独自の風俗画である。
文芸倶楽部では13年間に52枚の口絵を描き、多くの文学小説の単行本にも挿絵をよせるなど、人気挿絵画家であった。

This is a Kuchi-e from Miyake Seiken's novel Jakko-In temple. Taira no Tokushi (Noriko), daughter of Taira no Kiyomori and mother of Emperor Antoku, is depicted in splendid clothes. In the back, she is depicted in her later years, surviving the Battle of Dannoura and spending the rest of her life as a nun.
Although Kuchi-e was produced as an appendix to the book, the quality is very high, and the delicate lines are no less than those of Ukiyo-e.
Toshikata was a pupil of Yoshitoshi. His painting style was soft and graceful, with a unique genre of genre painting.
He was a popular illustrator at the Bungei Club, where he drew the illustrations for 52 Kuchi-es in three years, and also contributed illustrations to many monographs of novels.
