陽をうけて神々しく霞む富士を奥に望む、傑作と名高い横特大判の作品。
富士の半面と奥の山肌を茜色に染めたものと、陽を抑えて森の冷気を感じさせるものの2種類が確認されている。（こちらの作品は後者）
湖面に層をなして映る山肌は、一隻の舟の航跡によってわずかに混ざり合う。静けさに満ちた時間を想像させる一枚。
川瀬巴水は元々日本画家として活躍していたが、大正7年に発表された伊東深水の木版画作品「近江八景」に感銘を受け版画家に転向した。
その後は新版画の第一人者として活躍し、約40年にわたる画業のなかで多くの版画作品を残し、その数は600点にも及ぶ。
巴水の特徴的な青色はその場の空気さえも宿す深い味わいを持ち、「巴水ブルー」と称される。

This large work, which shows Mt. Fuji in the background in a divine haze in the sunlight, is renowned as a masterpiece.
Two versions of this work have been identified: one version in which the sun tints the half-surface of Mt. Fuji and the mountainside in the back orange, and the other version in which the sunlight is muted to give the impression of cool forest air (the work shown here is the latter.)
The mountain surface reflected in layers on the lake surface is slightly blended by the wake of a boat. This piece evokes a time filled with tranquility.
KAWASE Hasui was initially active as a Japanese painter but switched to printmaking artist by being impressed by ITO Shinsui's woodblock artwork "Eight Views of Omi," published in 1918.
After that, he became active as a leading artist in the Shinhanga field and left behind many print works in his 40 years of painting, numbering over 600.
Hasui's characteristic blue color is called "Hasui Blue" because it has a deep impression that even includes the atmosphere of the sketched places.
