ピーター アーヴィン ブラウン（1903 - 88）は、オランダ人の父とアイルランド人の母の元に生まれた。室内装飾やステンドグラスのデザインを学んだ後、建築家のアトリエで見習いとして働き、その後アムステルダムの王立美術学校に入学したという経歴を持つ。ブラウンの作品に特徴的な心地の良い整然さはおそらく、この経歴にもその理由を見いだせるであろう。写し取られた建築物は、印象的な構図や収斂された柔らかくも確かな線によって見事に引き立てられている。

The print shown here was printed by the Adachi Printmaking Institute and is generally considered to be "Shrine in Tokyo" without an exact title.
Pieter Irwin Brown (1903 - 88) was born to a Dutch father and Irish mother. After studying interior decorating and stained glass design, he served an apprenticeship in an architect's studio before entering the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. Perhaps the comfortable orderliness characteristic of Brown's work can be attributed to this background. The captured architecture is beautifully enhanced by the striking compositions and the soft but sure lines.
