This series depicts the five festivals' customs. This work, titled "July," one of the five seasonal festivals, depicts a scene from the Tanabata Festival. Originally, the series consisted of triptych, but this is only the right one of the three.
Eizan had learned the painting technique by his father, and later learned from Suzuki Nanrei. He also studied the techniques of Hokusai school by Hokkei who is Eizan's childhood friend. His name had became known as an Up-and-coming Ukiyo-e artist after Utamaro died suddenly. The depicted beautiful women created an atmosphere that included a kind of impermanent beauty, and these artworks led to the new wave of the period.
