古邨は、明治期においては版元の大黒屋と滑稽堂から花鳥作品を多く発表した。これらの作品は殆どが海外に輸出され、後に新版画が海外で人気となる礎となったと思われる。
大正に入ると号を祥邨と改め、渡辺庄三郎の出版により作品を発表していく。より海外への販売を意識したためか、作品のサイズは大判が多くなり色彩もより鮮やかになっていった。

During the Meiji period, Koson published many flower-and-bird works through his publishers, Daikoku-ya and Kokkei-do. Most of these works were exported overseas, and are thought to have been the foundation for the later popularity of new prints (Shinhanga) overseas.
In the Taisho era, he changed his name to Shoson and began publishing his works through the publisher Watanabe Shozaburo. Perhaps because he was more conscious of overseas sales, his works became larger and the colors more vivid.
