北斎は、巨木の垂直線と旅人たちの円環、そして富士山の三角形を見事に組み合わせることで、険しい峠越えの緊張感の中に、どこか晴れやかで清々しい空気感を閉じ込めました。

The sight of travelers desperately linking hands as they try to measure its girth vividly conveys a sense of human curiosity and playful charm in the face of nature. The sea of white clouds enveloping their feet suggests that this is a remote and severe highland, and beyond it, Mount Fuji—small yet sharply rendered—emits a quiet, penetrating presence.
By skillfully combining the vertical line of the towering tree, the circular formation of the travelers, and the triangular form of Mount Fuji, Hokusai captures an atmosphere that is at once tense with the hardship of crossing a rugged pass and unexpectedly bright and refreshing.
