「茶の湯日々草」は茶事の一連の流れを描いた作品。それまで男性の嗜みだった茶道が明治期には女性にも普及しはじめたことを受けて制作されたと考えられる。細かな道具類や着物も美しく描かれており、明治の女性達が茶の湯を楽しんでいたことが窺える。
年方は芳年門下で実質的な一門の後継者に推された。当時最も注文が多かった画家と言われ、生真面目な年方はどんな仕事でも依頼されれば断ることが出来なかった。錦絵でも「今様美人」のようなシリーズの他、風俗画を多く手がけ、穏やかで気品のある独自の風俗画を打ち出した。

This series is a work depicting the sequence of a tea ceremony. Considering that the tea ceremony, which had been primarily enjoyed by men, began to spread among women in the Meiji era, it is thought that this work was created during that time. The delicate utensils and kimonos are beautifully depicted, giving us a glimpse into the tea ceremony culture enjoyed by Meiji women.
Toshikata was a pupil of Yoshitoshi and was nominated as the successor of the family. He was said to be the artist who received the most orders at the time, and the earnest Toshikata could not refuse any commission. In addition to Ukiyo-e series such as "Imayo Bijin," he also produced many genre paintings, creating his own unique style of genre painting with gentle elegance.
