川合 玉堂（かわい ぎょくどう、1873 – 1957）は、明治から昭和時代にかけて活動した日本画家である。はじめの画号は玉舟（ぎょくしゅう）で、作品が入選を果たしたのちに玉堂と名を改めたとされる。23歳で上京すると、橋本雅邦（はしもと がほう）に師事し、その後は精力的な活動を経て、日本画壇の中心的存在の一人と認識されるようになった。
玉堂は、山並みを飲む美しい霧や、はるか遠くへ続く山々、自然とともに暮らす人々の営みなど、日本の四季が生み出す自然の美しさを丹念に描いた。
掲載作品は木版画で、おそらく版元と協力して制作されたものと想像できるが、詳細は明らかではない。

Kawai Gyokudo (1873 – 1957) was a Japanese painter active during the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods. His initial artist name was Gyokushu, which he changed to Gyokudo after one of his works was selected in a competition. At the age of 23, he moved to Tokyo, where he studied under Hashimoto Gaho. Following years of energetic activity, he became one of the central figures in the Japanese painting world.
Gyokudo meticulously depicted the beauty of nature created by Japan’s four seasons, such as the mist that envelops mountain ranges, the distant mountains stretching far into the horizon, and the daily lives of people living in harmony with nature.
