This work conveys the distinctive aesthetic sensibility of Taishō-period Japan through the use of traditional Japanese motifs. While influenced by Japanese art, Capellari developed a uniquely modern expression through his own refined, linear style. After studying painting in Austria, he arrived in Japan in the late Meiji era. In 1915 (Taishō 4), he met Shōzaburō Watanabe, who is thought to have encouraged him to explore woodblock printmaking. The two quickly established a rapport and began collaborating on the production and publication of shin-hanga. Shopping Guide & Information of the Japanese Prints
