静かな森の中、青い色彩が印象的なこの作品。舟越桂の作品には、シンプルな構成の中に深い情感が込められ、どこか夢のような世界が広がる。
「青い森で」というタイトルが示すように、自然の中に潜む静謐さと神秘が、線と色の重なりによって見事に表現されている。
舟越桂は、1951年に岩手に生まれた。
彫刻家の父を持ち、彫刻家を志して東京芸術大学大学院を出た後は、ロンドンへ拠点を移した。
1988年には、ヴェネツィア・ビエンナーレの日本代表に選出されている。静的な彫刻作品からは、この世界に生きる人間が抱える様々な感情が、静かに、だが強く漏れ出ている。そしてそれを目の当たりにした鑑賞者を、人間とはどういう生き物なのかという問いへ導く。
版画や素描作品も多く制作している。

Funakoshi Katsura was born in Iwate in 1951.
After graduating from a graduate degree of Tokyo University of the Arts, he moved to London.
In 1988, he was selected as a representative artist of Japan at the Venice Biennale.
From his static sculptures, various emotions held by people living in this world leak out quietly but strongly. They lead the viewer to question what kind of creatures human beings are.
He also creates many prints and drawings.
