Kunumaru was a pupil of Toyokuni. Among Toyokuni I’s disciples, he was regarded as one of the three most skilled artists, alongside Kuniyasu and Kuninao, collectively known as the “Three Crows.” In addition to producing numerous illustrations, he also created perspective prints and beauty. However, as he passed away at the age of 37, the number of his surviving works is relatively small.
