This print depicts a scene from the kabuki play Shojo Hyoban Zenaku Kagami, which features five female thieves. The play is said to be a reworking of Kumokiri Gonin Otoko with the characters changed to women. The figures are humorously portrayed as they react in surprise to a flash of lightning.
KunisadaⅡ is a pupil of Kunisada and took the name KunimasaⅡ in 1850. However, in 1852, the name was written down as KunisadaⅡ. When Toyokuni III died in 1864, he took the name Toyokuni IV around 1870. Shopping Guide & Information of the Japanese Prints
