江の島を訪れた二人の女性とサザエ売りの子供を描いた作品。ゆるやかに続く海岸線が奥行きを生み、澄んだ波の描写が爽やかな空気を運んでくる。
歌麿二代は、はじめ恋川春町の門人となり、後に初代喜多川歌麿の門人となった。歌麿が没した後は歌麿の妻に入夫して2代目歌麿を称した。

UtamaroⅡ began as a pupil of KOIKAWA Harumachi and later became a pupil of Utamaro.
After Utamaro's death, he married Utamaro's wife and took the name Utamaro II.
