広重は天保4年頃、版元・竹内孫八（保永堂）から「東海道五拾三次之内」を発表。その後、弘化4年にこの隷書版を世に送り出した。同作は江戸を出発し、53の宿駅を経て京都へいたるまでの道のりをたどった55枚のシリーズであり、その土地の風俗を織り交ぜて描かれた美しく時に大胆な構図の風景画は、当時の旅ブームに乗って人気を博した。

Hiroshige presented "53 Stations of the Tokaido Road" from 1833, by the publisher Hoei-Do, and later, published this Reisho version from 1847 - Reisho is one of the Japanese fonts. The series consists of 55 prints that depict the scene in the journey from Edo to Kyoto that includes 53 stations. Citizens in the Edo-era enjoyed the journey scenery and cultures of each place, and it achieved significant popularity.
