広重の最晩年の大作が富士山を題材とした「冨士三十六景」で、蔦屋吉蔵より出版された。ライバルであった北斎の「冨嶽三十六景」を意識したとも言える作品であり、広重が9月に亡くなる直前の安政5年4月に版下の検閲が済んでいるが、刊行は広重の没後、翌年の6月である。

Hiroshige's final masterpiece, Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, was published by Tsutaya Kichizo and focuses on the iconic Mount Fuji.
It is said that Hiroshige created this series with an awareness of his rival Hokusai’s Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. While the printing blocks were approved by censors in April of Ansei 5 (1858), just months before Hiroshige passed away in September, the series was not published until June of the following year, after his death.
