Kuniteru II was a pupil of Toyokuni III. Around the Bunkyū era, he began producing works under the name Kunitsuna II, and is believed to have changed his name to Kuniteru II around the Keiō era. After adopting the name Kuniteru, he produced many kaika-e (pictures of modernization and Westernization), among which railway prints were especially numerous. His depictions of steam locomotives were observed and rendered with far greater precision than those of other artists. Kaika-e from the late Edo to early Meiji period also possess considerable historical and documentary value. Shopping Guide & Information
