縫物をする女性の繊細な仕草と、画面右側に描かれた男性の存在が、静かな物語性と余情を感じさせる。年方ならではの柔らかな人物描写が、登場人物の心情をさりげなく表現している。
年方は芳年の門人で、画風は穏やかで気品のある独自の風俗画である。
文芸倶楽部では13年間に52枚の口絵を描き、多くの文学小説の単行本にも挿絵をよせるなど、人気挿絵画家となった。

Although Kuchi-e was produced as an appendix to the book, the quality is very high, and the delicate lines are no less than those of Ukiyo-e.
Toshikata was a pupil of Yoshitoshi. His painting style was soft and graceful, with a unique genre of genre painting.
He was a popular illustrator at the Bungei Club, where he drew the illustrations for 52 Kuchi-es in three years, and also contributed illustrations to many monographs of novels.
