ArtistComment
The cat's fidgeting with their hands is described in English as "making cookies (biscuits)." While moving their hands, the eyes of cat are somewhat vacant, as if its consciousness has been snatched away somewhere. Is it that this gesture, originally intended to improve the mother's milk supply, takes their consciousness back to the past?
Gallery Commentary
Shiori Ichikawa is an artist who creates silkscreen and drawing works using the relationship between humans and the creatures around us as her main motif. Her humorous works are not mere caricatures but rather depict the contradictions and ridiculousness of our modern life with a kind of compassion. The strange laughter, a little bit of guilt, and a particular love for the creatures at the mercy of humans. It is interesting to decipher the messages hidden in the prints used as a medium.
