Gallery Commentary
Two worms facing each other. When they emerge from the soil, their safe haven, sparks of surprise between them is occuring when they meet by chance. Often when humans meet someone they know outside, they rack their brains over whether they should call out to them or pretend not to notice them, but what about earthworms? What if they were able to recognize friend?
Ichikawa Shiori is an artist who creates silkscreen and drawing works using the relationship between humans and the creatures around us as her main motif. Her humorous works are not mere caricatures but rather depict the contradictions and ridiculousness of our modern life with a kind of compassion. The strange laughter, a little bit of guilt, and a particular love for the creatures at the mercy of humans. It is interesting to decipher the messages hidden in the prints used as a medium.
