Artist Comment
We can see these three species of gulls in the ocean during the winter, and one of the facts to distinguish the species is the shade of gray on their backs. However, when they are sleeping, they all look the same to me.
Gallery Commentary
Her final project at Tokyo University of the Arts, a series of birds, was inspired by the memories of the bird-watching trips with her father, in her childhood. For her, the beautiful forms and unique colors of birds are a wonderful existence that cannot be surpassed by anything else. When she captures this existence in her hand, the process of printmaking seems to create a blank space and maintain a good distance between the subject and the artist. Sometimes interspersed with personal episodes, the series is composed like a unique picture book, and is a joy to collect.
