海辺から山まで伸びる灰色と海の青、そして守江湾を区切るような砂嘴に打ち寄せる波の白の対比が美しいこの作品は、現在の大分県にあたる豊後を描いた１枚。
海岸線には松原が続き、海風を受け止めている。
「六十余州名所図会」（ろくじゅうよしゅうめいしょずえ）は、広重による日本全国の名所を描いたシリーズ。
全図とも画面は縦長で、前景を大きく描き遠近を強調するなど、斬新な構図がとられている。
