This is one of the vertical series of the Tokaido and is the depiction of Akasaka.
The 2 men in the middle of the print are Yaji-san and Kita-san. Akasaka had a traditional rumor that sometimes fox turns itself into a human. When Kita-san caught up with Yaji-san, Yaji-san is doubting that Kita-san in front of him is the fox.
Hiroshige was born as a child of the fireman of Yayosugashi in Edo. He loved painting from childhood up and became a pupil of Utagawa Toyohiro when he was 15 years old.
At first, he had drawn beauties and actors, and after that, he began to draw the sceneries of the famous places in Edo, and he earned a reputation from it.
