国貞の「花鳥余情 吾妻源氏（かちょうよじょう あづまげんじ）」「艶紫娯拾餘帖（えんしごじゅうよじょう）」「正寫相生源氏（しょううつし あいおいげんじ）」の三作品は「三源氏」と呼ばれ、多色摺木版画の頂点とも評されている。中でもこの「正寫相生源氏」については越前藩主・松平慶永（よしなが）の私家版との言い伝えもあり、彫・刷の贅を尽くした豪華さにおいては随一である。
こちらは正寫相生源氏の天地人3冊の揃い（一部掲載）で、漆塗りの合わせ箱を付属している。
国貞は豊国の門下で浮世絵師随一とも言われる数万点の作品を残し、国芳や広重を押さえて当時人気を誇った浮世絵師である。
22歳で浮世絵界にデビューしてから79歳で亡くなるまで、歌舞伎や吉原、当時の文化風俗など、まさに「江戸文化の全て」を描き切り、浮世絵界のトップランナーとして走り続けた大御所中の大御所といえる。

Kunisada's three shunga books, "Kachoyojo Azuma Genji," "Enshi Gojuyojo," and "Shoutsushi Aioi Genji" are known as the "Three Genjis" and are regarded as the greatest work of polychrome woodblock prints. Of the three, "Shoutsushi Aioi Genji" is said to have been a private edition of Matsudaira Yoshinaga, lord of the Echizen domain, and is the most luxurious in terms of the lavishness of its engraving and printing.
This is the set of "Shoutsushi Aioi Genji," three books named Ten, Chi, and Jin. (Some pages of them are shown here.) The three books are in the lacquered box: not original box but fits them.
Kunisada (1786-1865), also known as Toyokuni III, was the most popular, prolific, and commercially successful artist of ukiyo-e woodblock prints in 19th-century Japan. In his own time, his reputation far exceeded that of his contemporaries, Hokusai, Hiroshige, and Kuniyoshi.
From his debut in the Ukiyo-e world at the age of 22 until his death at 79, Kunisada depicted "All aspects of Edo culture," including Kabuki, Yoshiwara, and the culture and customs of the time, making him one of the most influential Ukiyo-e artists of all time.
