日向は現在の宮崎県西部にあたる。油津港の北に広がる日向灘は当時の海上交通における難所であり、天候の見極めのための長期滞在者が多く、港町として賑わいを見せた。
「六十余州名所図会」（ろくじゅうよしゅうめいしょずえ）は、広重による日本全国の名所を描いたシリーズ。
全図とも画面は縦長で、前景を大きく描き遠近を強調するなど、斬新な構図がとられている。

Since the Hyuga sea, in the north of Aburatsu Port, was a dangerous spot for a voyage, Aburatsu Port had been prospered with the long-stay visitors for the purpose of seeing the weather before the departure.
"Famous Places in the 60-Odd Provinces" is a series by Hiroshige depicting famous places throughout Japan.
All of the works are vertically oriented, with innovative compositions such as a large foreground and emphasis on perspective.
