「京の夜」は京都を描いた連作の内の一つで、他に「京の朝」「京の昼」「京の夕」がある。メインの版は全作品で使用しながら、人物などの版を加えたり、色を変えたりなどして、京の１日の表情を見事に描き分けている。
関野準一郎は中学時代から版画誌を発行し、25歳で上京して恩地孝四郎に師事、棟方志功の教えも受けた。
木版、エッチング、リトグラフなどの技法を駆使し、風景や人物など多様な主題で60年近くにわたり制作を続け、国際的にも活躍した作家である。

“Kyoto in the Night” is one of a series depicting Kyoto, the others being “Kyoto in the Morning,” “Kyoto in the Noon,” and “Kyoto in the Evening.” While all the works shared the main woodblock, the artist has added versions of figures and other objects, changed the colors, and so on, to beautifully depict the expression of a day in Kyoto.
SEKINO Junichiro published his print magazine as a junior high school student. Later he became a pupil of ONCHI Koshiro and MUNAKATA Shiko.
He worked for nearly 60 years on various subjects, including landscapes and figures, using woodcut, etching, and lithography techniques. He was an internationally active artist.
